Time, Our Signature

« Since 1795, our mission has remained the same: to secure the decisions that matter. Only the way we fulfil that mission has evolved. »
1795 Notaires

Our Heritage

Since 1795, our firm has advised families, entrepreneurs and members of the Cannes business community on the decisions that shape their assets and their future.

Our history has evolved alongside that of Cannes. For more than two centuries, the firm has played an active part in the legal life of the city, accompanying its major transformations from the earliest changes to the local landscape to the international prominence it enjoys today.

Over the generations, several families of notaries have succeeded one another at the head of the firm, among them the Gazagnaire, Labaste and Vouillon families. Each has helped shape its identity and establish its enduring place in the history of Cannes. Two of the firm’s former notaries went on to serve as Mayor of Cannes, including Maître André Vouillon, who held office from 1968 to 1971.

For many years, the firm welcomed its clients at 7 Rue des États-Unis, an address closely associated with the memories of generations of Cannois. The notarial archives preserved since the late eighteenth century continue to bear witness to the evolution of families, property and the city itself.

More than two centuries after its foundation, this heritage is more than a history. It is a responsibility — one that continues to shape the way we practise our profession, with independence, discernment and a long-term perspective.

In 2017, the firm moved to 25 Rue des Serbes, into premises designed to reflect the changing practice of the profession while offering clients an open, functional and distinctly contemporary environment.

Conceived in harmony with their surroundings, these premises also pay tribute to Cannes and to one of the events that has contributed to its international reputation for nearly eight decades: the Cannes Film Festival.

In 2025, the firm became 1795 Notaires.

This new name does not mark a break with the past. It pays tribute to the year in which the firm was founded and affirms the connection between its history and its future.

The world evolves, the law changes and our clients’ expectations continue to develop. Technology, new ways of working and changes within the profession create new opportunities, while reinforcing the same fundamental requirement for legal certainty.

True to its history, the firm has chosen to embrace these developments with exacting standards and discernment. It continues to refine its working methods, integrate innovations that enhance the client relationship and pursue the same ambition: to practise notarial law in step with its time, without ever compromising the principles at the heart of its mission.

1795 Notaires embodies this continuity: a firm strengthened by its history and resolutely focused on the future.

Our Signature

Today, Stéphane VOUILLON, Marie-Louise GANTELME-TRASTOUR and Philippe CLEMENT carry this legacy forward with the same commitment to excellence and the same dedication to their clients.

Alongside them, a team of experienced notaries and legal professionals, continuously trained in legal, regulatory and technological developments, brings its expertise, availability and quality of advice to every matter.

Every situation receives the same level of attention, whether it concerns a family, a business, an investor or a public institution. Behind every notarial act lies a project, an estate, a transfer of wealth or an important decision — each calling for attentive listening, careful thought and rigorous legal analysis.

History gives a firm its identity. Its strength comes from the women and men who bring that identity to life.

Since 1795, generations have succeeded one another, the law has evolved and practices have changed. Yet one ambition remains unchanged: to fulfil our mission with independence, rigour and a genuine sense of service, so that today, as in the past, we remain worthy of the trust our clients place in us.
